Introductory Kayaking Course

Always wanted to try whitewater kayaking? Been in the pool a couple of times, but want to get outside? It’s wet, wild, and wonderful so come out to COE for a couple of days and learn the basics of paddling. If you have solid skills and prefer a course with an emphasis on advanced learning and river running, please see our Advanced Kayaking Skills Week.

Agenda

Arrive the evening before to meet your instructor and fellow participants. After a home cooked breakfast we’ll head out to the lake to start “yakin.” We'll cover safety, swimming, strokes, drills, bow rescues, kayak rolls and potentially even have a full afternoon down by the river, learning basic hydrology. Sunday morning we’ll be back at the lake developing our new skills, before attempting an easier (grade I+) whitewater run. Don’t worry, for there are a variety of different rapids which will challenge all levels of ability from the very novice to those who are more experienced and interested in “throwing down” to the next level.
