Ice Top Roping & Anchor Building

A two day course covering a wide range of ice climbing skills and techniques to help you become an independant ice climber. A couple days of previous experience ice climbing is required. If you have never ice climbed before see our Ice Climbing Weekends as a good place to start.

Agenda

Fri Evening Arrival: The evening you arrive you will meet your guides and fellow participants and enjoy the night at the Sheiling Mountain Lodge.

Day 1: After an early start and a home cooked buffet breakfast we will head out to one of the ice climbing areas. After everyone has had a climb or two we will move into a lesson on ice anchors, rappelling, and top-rope construction. Most of the day will be spent practicing these skills. The last hour or two will be spent getting some laps in on the climbs with movement instruction and critiquing from your guides.
Sat Eve: After a big meal we will spend the evening discussing ice climbing gear selection and maintenance, ice safety concerns and finish up with a ice climbing slide show by one of your guides.

Day 2: We will head out to another ice climbing area and spend the day practicing the skills learned on day one as well as progressing into more advanced skills such as cleaning ice screws while following a leader, placing ice screws on top-rope and perhaps some basic lead climbing skills if time allows. We will finish the day by debriefing the course and discussing where to go from here to continue your development as an ice climber.
