Ice Climbing Weekends

Scaling up frozen waterfalls you say? There are good times and challenges to be had by all! The David Thompson Corridor is home to some of the best ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies, without the crowds of more populated areas to compete with.

Agenda

Day 1– Arrive at the Sheiling Mountain Lodge in the evening where you will meet your instructors and fellow climbers, have a soak in the hot tub, relax, and head to bed early to get ready for the weekend.
Day 2- Head out west and get ice climbing! Depending on experience and comfort levels your instructors will choose the appropriate location for climbing. Learn about safety, knots, belays, equipment, climbing techniques, and have tons of fun! After everyone has had their fill we’ll head back to the lodge for a delicious supper and more soaking in the hot tub.
Day 3– We’ll be back at it bright and early!! Everyone will feel more comfortable with ice climbing by now so we’ll head to a location that is a little more difficult to really get the blood and adrenaline pumping. There are many different levels of climbs to challenge all skill levels so don’t worry. After pushing ourselves to the max again all day we’ll head to the lodge for soup and snacks before packing-up and saying good-byes.

Gear List

Please bring the following gear for your ice climbing adventure:

Long underwear tops and bottoms (not cotton)
Waterproof shells (preferably breathable)
Warm tops and bottoms (fleece etc.)
Warm toque and mitts/gloves
Wool or synthetic socks
Sleeping Bag + Pillow for the lodge
Group gear and helmets + harnesses provided but feel free to bring your own.
Boots and Crampons - available for rent from COE at half our regular rental rate.

Instructors

Instructors of these courses are expert ice climbers who have vast experience and knowledge in the mountain environment. They have many years experience helping new climbers learn the skills needed to enjoy this great sport.

Add-on guiding days available for 1 guest/guide at $350/day and for 2 guests/guide at $200 each/day
