Via Ferrata in the David
Thompson Corridor

![]()

The ferrata was build by a small group of dedicated climbers based out of the
Nordegg area with the help of the David Thompson Corridor
Climbers Association. This is one of the first Ferrata's in North
America, and the very first in What is Via Ferrata?
Basically, the ferrata consists of over 300 iron rungs fastened to the rock,
allowing non rock climbers to experience the trill of climbing up a cliff face.
Beside the rungs is steel cable, which you stay attached to with a special
shock absorbing device throughout the climb. The trip takes about 3 hours
total: 25 minutes to hike to the base, 2 hours to climb the ferrata, and
another half hour to hike back down to the road. The views from the top are
spectacular!
