Day
1 - After a
morning session covering basic knots, hitches and ropehandling we will head
outside to begin learning crevasse rescue skills. A number of rescue systems
will be introduced with an emphasis on simplicity and efficiency. All
participants will have the chance to lead a rescue, assist in a rescue, be
rescued, and self rescue.
Day 2 - Time to put our new skills to work. The day will be spent
travelling through crevassed, glaciated terrain. We will complete an alpine
circuit and perhaps a summit with much time spent discussing route finding and
hazard management.
Day 3 to 7 - The remaining 5 days of the course will include ascents of
major peaks, alpine rock skills, navigation, ridge travel, an overnight trip,
and much more. The exact location and curriculum will depend on current
conditions and weather to maximize the learning and enjoyment of all
participants.
Instructors
of these courses are expert alpinists and ACMG guides who have vast experience
and knowledge in the mountain environment. They have many years experience
helping new climbers learn the skills needed to enjoy this great sport.
